Mission Statement

Mission Statement & Teaching Philosophy

I have played piano for 25 years. Starting as a child, I have had over 30 teachers and collaborated with many fine musicians. I know what it is like to feel hopeless or extremely frustrated over a certain concept, to have then revisited it a period of time later with a different instructor, only to be bewildered at how simple it was to master.  My style of teaching reflects the skills, methods, and attributes that I know to be pedagogically the most useful and efficient. This involves diversifying my approach based on the strengths and needs of the individual student, as well as his or her style of learning.

Each student has a unique set of goals, interests and musical tastes, as well as a general purpose for taking piano lessons.  Some have aspirations of studying music at the next level, as in high school or college; some want to improve their play, increase their functionality in their current band, or begin to play solo or paying gigs; others just to have fun and enjoy the satisfaction that music brings them.  My mission is to help each student achieve their ambition. In the end, Michael Howe Piano Lessons is about helping one another express themself through music. Music is art. Music is an expression of love.
